Ice Spice Announces Debut Album ‘Y2K’ Release
Ice Spice has shared major music news with her munchkins. After her rise to fame in 2023, the “Munch” rapper, 24, is releasing her debut album Y2K, just in time for summer.
Why Y2K?
On Wednesday (June 5), Spice announced on her social media accounts: “HIIIII >.< Y2K ☆ THE ALBUM WILL BE DROPPING JULY 26TH !!!! pre-save now ;*” Ice, whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston, was born on January 1, 2000. Of her debut album, Ice previously teased, “I think this is some of my best work.” The New Year’s Baby added a supporting world tour. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 7th, at 10 am ET, making stops at European festivals at the beginning of July before performing in the US on July 30th.
Spice will stop in Washington, DC, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Rapper Cash Cobain is slated to join her for select North American dates. She and Cash previously worked together on his “Fisherr” song with Bay Swag.
Reactions to Ice Spice’s Y2K Debut Album Announcement
The artist’s album and tour announcement were met with mixed reviews online. Over on X (formerly Twitter), one person commented on the album artwork and said: “They put the album name on the trash can… baby they already know [sobbing emojis].” Dissing the album artwork as well, another person asked, “Nobody gaf about album covers looking good anymore ?” Added a third, “Why they put the album name on the TRASH CAN [trash can emoji, sobbing emoji, laughing emoji]. They already ate her so bad [sobbing emoji, laughing emoji].”
One person simply pleaded, “Dont do this to our ears.” Another user stated: “I speak for everyone when I say we WONT be listening.” A third said: “This is awful.”
However, her loyal munchkins expressed their excitement over on X. One fan said, “greatest rapper alive dropping next month… chills.” Loving the album cover, one person swooned, “This cover is actually cute…. Okay 10s….” A third stated: “My goat dropping soon.” Another fan expressed their thanks and wrote: “thank you for saving the rap game.” One user commented, “THIS COVER IS SICKENINGGGGGGGGG.”
Spice’s latest release was a month ago with a reworking of Sean Paul’s 2002 reggae hit “Gimme the Light.” Her version is titled “Gimmie A Light,” and teased her debut album title Y2K with her hot pink Range Rover’s custom license plate reading: “Y2K.”
