Beyoncé Isn’t Motivated By ‘Charts And Sales’
Beyoncé is getting to the point in her decades-long, chart-topping, award-winning, history-making music career that she isn’t motivated by “chart and sales” anymore.
Beyoncé Isn’t Motivated by ‘Charts and Sales’
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday (June 20), the “Same My Name” singer tells the publication that having the opportunity to uplift new talent is exactly what “motivates” her. In her latest album, Cowboy Carter, she featured 29-year-old genre-blending artist Shaboozey on songs “Sweet Honey Buckin‘” and “Spaghetti.”
Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts, and Willie Jones all earned their first-ever Billboard chart placements after being showcased by Beyoncé, THR reports. The mother of three told the publication that seeing these artists she has taken under her wing, “breaking down barriers,” “flying to new heights, inspiring the world, that is exactly what motivates me.”
Recalling a time in her professional music career when charts and sales “excited and motivated” her, the icon said that after she’s challenged herself by pouring “every ounce of your life, your pain, your growth, and your dreams into your art, it’s impossible to go backward.”
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has expressed feeling this way about charts and sales. Back in 2007, 26-year-old Beyoncè said during an appearance on Larry King Live that she was no longer interested in chart success. Since she had already accomplished millions upon millions of record sales and was at #1, she was working towards “being a legend and being around for 20 more years” and an “icon.” Nearly 20 years later, it is safe to say she has accomplished just that and will continue to pursue those goals.
