Megan Rapinoe Celebrates World Cup Win With Nipsey Hussle Quote
On Sunday, Megan Rapinoe celebrated the United States’ record fourth Women’s World Cup title by quoting the late Nipsey Hussle.
The midfielder/winger who is the US Women’s soccer team caption quoted the Los Angeles rapper’s lyrics from his single, “Hussle and Motivate.”
In an Instagram post, where Rapinoe appears smiling while she holds the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards, the Redding, California native wrote,” Ain’t really trip on the credit, I just paid all of my dues. I just respected the game, now my name all in the news. Trippin’ on all of my moves, quote me on this, got a lot more to prove,” as her caption.
Nipsey Hussle’s lyrics were in reference to how the 34-year-old soccer star garnered international attention on and off the field, including announcing that if the US Women’s soccer team won the World Cup she wouldn’t “f**king” go to the White House.
Rapinoe had a lot to celebrate, as she was the championship’s best goalscorer who netted a penalty in the 2-0 Finals win against The Netherlands.
Rapinoe tagged Nipsey Hussle in her post and ended it with the hashtag, “tmc,” a reference to the “Victory Lap” rapper’s motto “The Marathon Continues.”
The Grammy-nominated rapper and philanthropist, 33, was fatally shot on March 31 outside of his apparel store, Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles.
