Documentary Series On Afeni And Tupac Shakur Coming To FX
A five-part documentary series on the late Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni Shakur is coming to FX.
On Tuesday, the cable network unveiled the series titled Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
The Allen Hughes-directed series highlights Tupac and Afeni’s “unified message of freedom, equality, persecution, and justice.”
Those who knew the late rapper and his mother will be narrating the docuseries. Hughes, who also directed Defiant Ones, negotiated a deal with the “California Love” rapper’s estate to produce the five-part series that has been promoted as “the first definitive, comprehensive project on [Tupac] Shakur with the full cooperation of the estate.”
This won’t be the first documentary to focus on Tupac: there was also Biggie and Tupac, and Murder Rap: Inside the Biggie and Tupac Murders. A release date for Outlaw has yet to be announced, but FX is also dropping another series titled Hip Hop Untold, which is a six-part series regarding hip-hop’s power brokers.
