Election Day Roundup: Morning Edition
We’ll have continuing coverage throughout the day of the notable stories and images from around the country on Election Day. And tonight, we’ll have live updated results from all of our local, state and national races.
10:45 a.m. – Dreamville Sending Pizza to the Polls in Raleigh, Charlotte
Rap superstar J. Cole, a Fayetteville native, has his Dreamville Foundation helping get pizza out to the polls today. Dreamville Tweeted out their partnership with @pizzatothepolls and will be sending out “hundreds of pizzas to those waiting to vote.”

10 a.m. – Should We Expect to Know Who Won Tonight?
Fox News and a number of other media outlets have made a point to explain something that has been a very touchy subject this election year: We may not know who won many races tonight… and that’s normal. As Fox News points out, we are typically pretty spoiled and find out at least the President on Election Night. But all of those results are just predictions, as states are never done actually counting votes on the night of. There are various deadlines for when ACTUAL vote counting is to be completed. That being said, depending on how things go, we may have a pretty good idea who the winners are in most races. But with so many adjustments this year to handle COVID-19 spread, just don’t be alarmed if we don’t know tonight. That’s perfectly normal, and that doesn’t mean anything is wrong.
8:15 a.m. – Early Voting Numbers Shatter Records
Around the country, some 97 million people voted BEFORE Election Day this year. That’s a dramatic increase of nearly 100 percent over 2016 early voting, according to a story from US News. The early voting numbers aren’t surprising, as many states pushed for people to vote either by mail or at in-person early voting to help slow the spread of the COVID-19. In North Carolina, over 4.5 million people voted early, according to the state Board of Elections. That surpassed the 3 million number from 2016 easily.
7 a.m. – First Election Results Reported From Tiny New Hampshire Town
CNN reported that the first officially released vote counts for this election are in. Dixville Notch, a small town in New Hampshire, holds a gathering of all eligible voters just after midnight and then announces the results. This year, all five eligible voters chose Joe Biden. But as CNN notes, the town doesn’t always pick the right winner. They voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
