‘Girls Trip 2’ Confirmed Reuniting Full Cast
Pack your bags, the girls are back! Writer-director-producer Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the 2017 Girls Trip announced during Sundance Film Festival that fans can look forward to the sequel. “It’s officially happening. I can say that,” Essence reports. The full cast will also be reprising their roles, the publication reports. The original starred Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, and Tiffany Haddish.
This time around, however, the girls might be getting a new change of scenery. The original was set at the annual Essence Festival that takes place in New Orleans each year. Oliver noted that the film’s producer Will Packer “might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana,” Variety reports. Although the setting is yet to be confirmed, if the film sticks with the festival theme, it’s possible that the girls could go to Afrochella as the festival takes place in Ghana.
The first film was a box office hit, grossing $140 million worldwide on a modest $16 million budget, the publication reports.
Two weeks prior to the announcement, Packer appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay where he spoke about how the original film came together.
“I knew for a fact Regina Hall was absolutely the first person we went to,” he said.
He added that he had a separate conversation with Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith and they said since the two have not worked together in so long that they would love to work together again. The two notably starred in Set It Off back in 1996 alongside Vivica A. Fox and Kimberly Elise.
Lastly, was the fourth role which Packer says they had actresses audition for. “I knew I wanted Regina. I had a great conversation with Latifah and Jada, and that worked out. Now, I have to finish that final role. We went out to cast and she [Tiffany Haddish] killed the audition.”
It seems as though the sequel is still in the works but we are excited to have the ladies back for another adventure.
