Home Intruder Wanted To Kill Eminem
Back in April, Eminem had a confrontation with a home intruder, and now more details are being revealed. Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew David Hughes, allegedly said he was present in the rapper’s home to “kill” him when he broke into his Clinton Township, Michigan residence, according to a court hearing on Wednesday (Sept. 10). Hughes missed the security and entered Eminem’s house via a busted window, as the Detroit Free Press reports.
On April 5, the Detroit rapper awoke at home, discovering a man that was standing behind him. He initially thought it was his nephew before realizing that it was an intruder, as Clinton Township officer Adam Hackstock told the court.
“When Mr. Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Mr. Hughes that he was there to kill him,” Hamstock testified. According to Hackstock, he arrived to the gated community and saw a security guard wrestling with Hughes on the ground. Eminem claimed that he escorted Hughes through a TV area, game room, and basketball court to leave the residency.
The man was unarmed. However, a brick appeared inside a busted window in the house. Since the incident, Hughes has been in custody and is being held on a $50,000 cash bond. Hughes was charged with first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of property.
The man is believed to be homeless and might be mentally ill. “In my opinion, I think there’s some sort of mental issues involved here,” said Hughes’ attorney, Richard Glanda. The rapper wasn’t present in court. However, the judge found probable cause to move forward with a trial. Hughes is slated for an arraignment that’s been set for Sept. 28 in Macomb County Circuit Court.
