The Weeknd Starts Rumors About Selena Gomez Asking For A Kidney
Whether that was intentional or not… That’s your call.
In the track “Call Out My Name” off of ‘My Dear Melancholy,’ The Weeknd layed down a line that is causing some buzz that now ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez may have been looking for a kidney from her boyfriend at the time.
The line that’s causing a buzz says “I said I didn’t feel nothing, baby, but I lied, I almost cut a piece of myself for your life.”
From the pop world, it’s well known that Selena Gomez underwent a transplant that was matched by her best friend Francia Raisa.
Entertainment Tonight already disputed the line, with sources close to Gomez saying that she would have “NEVER” asked him for something like that, and it was hard enough to have her best friend step in.
“It’s just a lyric and he knew it would strum up attention and that people would interpret it exactly as they have, but he was never actually going to donate his kidney to Selena,” the source says. “Sure, he was her boyfriend at the time, so it perhaps crossed his mind to get tested to see if he was a match — which is incredibly rare — but it never got anywhere close to actually happening.”
The source also says “The Weeknd was always much more concerned with his career than his relationship. Selena leaned on friends and family during the surgery more than anyone.”
