J. Cole has never been shy about references to his Fayetteville roots in his music, and we might have the best one yet with his new song "7 Minute Drill."

"7 Minute Drill" appears on the surprise new album "Might Delete Later" that dropped overnight.

The song is a response track to a recent diss track from rap superstar Kendrick Lamar. Lamar made light of J. Cole claiming that he and Drake and Lamar were the "big three" in the rap game.

Lamar had a guest verse on the song "Like That" on an album from Future and Metro Boomin. In that he said there was no "big three" and it was "just big me."

That brings us to "7 Minute Drill" and his response to Lamar. We won't go into all of it here, as it's worth a listen, and a lot of the lyrics are... spicy. But we do want to dive into the Fayetteville references on the track.

7 Minute Drill Fayetteville References

In the very first line of the chorus, we get a:

Light work like it's PWC
It's a cold world, keep the heat under your seat

PWC is obviously the Fayetteville Public Works Commission, our local power company. We get a few mentions of it here, as the chorus is repeated. And after the chorus, we move straight into Verse 1, where we start with Fayetteville, and how he has battled adversity:

I came up in the 'Ville, so I'm good when it's tension
He still doin' shows, but fell off like the Simpsons

Later, Cole talks about how Lamar has had the success and fame he desires, but that he hasn't worried about that, and we get a Cumberland County reference:

The rap beef ain't realer than the s--t I seen in Cumberland
He averagin' one hard verse like every thirty months or somethin'

In the second verse, we get another local reference, with Cole saying he's annoyed with all the nonsense, and they wouldn't tolerate that back home:

Two-six, we don't at n---as, we get at niggas
Shoot a n---a lights out, yeah, my dogs stat fillers
Stat stuffers, triple-double, get your ass black duffled

Glad to have new music out from Cole. And love that he's staying true to local! We'll be out at Dreamville Festival this weekend. Follow our complete coverage here.

Dreamville Festival 2024 in Raleigh: Your Complete Guide – Schedule, Parking and More

Dreamville Festival 2024 is this weekend - April 6 and 7 - in Raleigh, at Dorothea Dix Park. So it's time to get everyone ready with everything you need to know about the festival.

Fayetteville native J. Cole and his Dreamville record label are putting on the fourth installment of the event, with perfect weather and record crowds expected.

We'll be updating this guide all week as more information comes out, so check back for all the information you need to make your Dreamville Festival 2024 complete.

Dreamville Festival 2024 - The History

Cole started the event way back in 2018, but found itself delayed because of hurricanes. That moved the event into the spring of 2019, and things went pretty well.

Problems came again the next year, as the festival had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That led to the second installment not coming until the spring of 2022. The 2023 version saw weather delays, but ended up going great.

But we are back with no delays for the fourth version, and Cole has a superstar lineup set to wow people.

Let's take a look at all things Dreamville Festival 2024, including where to park, who's playing, what to expect, and more.
