Fox News Posts Tribute To Aretha Franklin, Uses Photo Of Patti LaBelle
Oh… Come on, this writes itself.
When a celebrity passes on, there’s typically a scramble to get tributes up and running, but since Aretha Franklin wasn’t well since Monday, you would have thought that a large news affiliate like Fox News would be on top of it.
Well, apparently when assembling tributes, the photos used in the montage were of Patti LaBelle.
Their spokesperson, quoted by Billboard, explained what happened:
“We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends,” Fox News Vice President, Media Desk Jessica Santostefano said in a statement to People. “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”
Whether or not that’s how it went down is unknown, but a lot of people were rolling their eyes at the mistake.
Okay this is getting weird. Fox News claimed in their apology that Aretha was accidentally cropped out of an image with LaBelle. But, uh, as the original AP image shows: Aretha did not perform with LaBelle. https://t.co/kKNAVLWnFd
