Megan Thee Stallion, Kandi Show Support For Black Trans Woman Who Was Brutally Beaten
Megan Thee Stallion and Kandi recently took to Instagram to show support for Iyanna Dior, a black trans woman who was brutally beaten by a mob in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Hot Girl Meg shared a photograph of Dior on her Instagram page. “The video of lyanna Dior really broke my heart!” the rapper wrote in the caption of her post. “Please help her out any way you can if you know her real cash app put it in the comments.”
Megan also used the hashtags “black lives matter” and “black trans lives matter.” Singer, songwriter, and reality TV star Kandi shared a few memes in support of Dior along with a graphic that provided the woman’s cash app so that people could donate.

“When I say Black Lives Matter that includes Queer Black Lives Too,” Kandi’s first meme read. Kandi also shared a tweet by transgender advocate Raquel Willis. “A young black trans woman named Iyanna Dior was brutally attacked by a group of mostly Black cis men in Minneapolis last night. There’s video online that I won’t share,” Willis’ tweet read. “But this is why we must always clarify that all Black Lives Matter every time we invoke this chant.”

The “If You Think I’m Not” singer also shared another meme that asserted “transphobia isn’t an option.” Other celebrities, including Real Housewives of Atlanta star Eva Marcille and stylist Misa Hylton, also took to Instagram to show support for Dior. On Monday night (June 1), which was the first day of Pride Month, Dior was beaten by a mob of men and footage of the incident went viral on social media, prompting people to call for justice.
Dior, 21, was at a gas station following a fender bender, as Rolling Stone reports. Dior took to Facebook and told her supporters that she needed time “to process everything that’s going on.” She also thanked people for checking in with her to make sure that she was okay.
The beating that Dior suffered follows a fatal police shooting of Tony McDade, 38, a black trans man in Tallahassee, Florida, which has sparked protests among the LBGTQ and black community. Some advocates and activists have also amplified the story regarding the murder of Nina Pop, 28, who was found deceased in her Missouri apartment, last month. McDade and Pop were both initially misgendered by police departments when information regarding their deaths was released.
In addition to celebrities, LGBTQ activists are posting about Dior’s story on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, in an attempt to bring awareness to the increased rate of violence against black transgender people. At least 26 transgender or gender non-conforming people were violently killed in 2019 alone, with the vast majority of the victims being black transgender women, according to the Human Rights Coalition.
