Twitch Streaming Service Bans President Donald Trump for ‘Hateful Conduct’
The Trump Twitch page, which was initially launched in October, has been issued a temporary ban on streaming. The page was made for streaming rallies and campaign events. Trump’s account was banned for “hateful conduct” that was aired on stream, and Twitch says the offending content has now been removed.
One of the streams in question was a rebroadcast of Trump’s infamous kickoff rally, where he said Mexico was sending rapists to the United States. Twitch also flagged many racist comments at Trump’s recent rally in Tulsa.
Twitch stated, “Like anyone else, politicians on Twitch must adhere to our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. We do not make exceptions for political or newsworthy content, and will take action on content reported to us that violates our rules.”
Twitch swore to prevent harassment within the community a week before this suspension. Twitch now deals with many allegations regarding sexual misconduct and harassment within the streaming community. The streaming platform has realized it needs to take moderating streams a lot more seriously. The racist language it banned President Donald Trump for is often allowed on other platforms because he is the President of the United States.
Twitch stated last week it would start permanently banning streamers in response to many allegations that are coming out. The first major ban was issued towards Dr. Disrespect, one of Twitch’s most popular streamers. Dr. Disrespect has not been told why his channel disappeared, nor has Twitch confirmed why he was banned.
Just minutes before Twitch suspended Trump, Reddit said it banned a number of subreddits for harassment, including r/The_Donald. The subreddit is not directly affiliated with the president, as the Twitch channel actually is.
