Nick Cannon’s Talk Show Canceled After Six Months
After six months on the air, Nick Cannon’s talk show is coming to an end.
According to Deadline, the original plan for Nick Cannon, was to go on a five-week hiatus while the tv host films Fox’s The Masked Singer and VH1’s Wild ‘N Out. The crew was to get one week’s pay during the break but now they will get severance as the show’s producer-distributor, Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, is expected to tell them that the two episodes filming today (March 10) will be the show’s last ones.
The show will not go off the air right away the outlet reported stating that the show has enough episodes to carry out the season.
“It’s never easy to cancel a production with clear potential but, after a great deal of deliberation and examining various options, we have made the difficult business decision to end production on Nick Cannon,” Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, said in a statement per the outlet. “We plan to offer viewers original episodes of the daytime talk show through the remainder of this season. Our thanks go to the very talented Nick Cannon and our wonderful production team, and we wish Nick continued success with his many hit ventures.”
Nick Cannon was ranked as the lowest single-host daytime syndicated talk show this season; it has averaged a 0.4 household rating.
The show launched on September 28, 2021, as it was originally slated to launch fall of 2020 but due to the actor’s anti-Semitic remarks he made on his podcast, the show debuted later.
At the moment there is not a show to replace Nick Cannon but Fox Televisions Stations group recently picked up The Jennifer Hudson Show. Debmar-Mercury, a subsidiary of Lionsgate, next season will have Sherri, hosted by Sherri Shepherd which will succeed the company’s The Wendy Williams Show which also airs on Fox stations.
