Cumberland County Animal Services says they are waiving the $100 adoption fee on large dogs, for April 22-23 only.

Only dogs 30 pounds and over qualify for the waived fees, and you have to do it today from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or Saturday, April 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. Adoptions are available at the Animal Services Center, 4704 Corporation Drive in Fayetteville.

"We have found that having adoption promotions like this are a great way to find good homes for our animals," said Animal Services Director Elaine Smith.  "All of these dogs will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed, so this is a great way for an adopter to get a great family pet."

While there are usually some concerns that fee waivers will bring out pet owners who aren't up to par, Smith says that isn't so.

"We do sometimes have people ask if 'free' dogs are at risk of being abused, and we have found that this isn't true – the fee paid doesn’t determine the amount of love for the pet," Smith said.

Cumberland County Animal Services says the $100 fee could instead be spent on toys, a bed or treats for your new dogs.
