Kendrick Lamar Says NO MORE CELL PHONES!
K.Dot is over people living through their screens.
New came out via The Guardian that Kendrick Lamar has decided to ban cell phones at his upcoming shows, but it’s not just because of wanting people to pay attention to the show.
“While the rapper’s management did allow a few official photographers into the North American dates of his show, showcasing songs from his latest album Damn, Lamar’s fresh concern to limit the market is an attempt to protect his valuable “brand” and ensure the appetite for tickets remains keen. A large part of the income of the music industry, even for bestselling artists, relies on the profits made by concert tours,” says The Guardian.
Kendrick isn’t the only one who has banned cell phones in the past. Just last month, Jack White, the former White Stripes singer, now on a solo tour, has also done the same. Lamar is even taking it one step further: he will not be allowing professional photographers in the auditorium for the tour – at least the U.K. part of it.
It does become an issue for some artists because even though streaming sites like YouTube has a filter that will tag live videos uploaded that copyright infringes, and therefore can’t be monetized, people start to find that shows aren’t worth going to if they can catch it online. It’s become progressively harder, especially when people do Facebook Lives from shows as well.
So, the bottom line? Guess Kendrick won’t be showing up in any Snapchat or Instagram Stories anytime soon.
Amy Cooper is one with the force and the force is with her.
