You could say that a Fayetteville woman has a bunch of money burning a hole in her pocket now, as Lacretia Spaulding won on a “Fire” lottery scratch-off.

The North Carolina Education Lottery $5 Fire game landed Spaulding a $100,000 prize. She bought the ticket at the Circle K on Pamalee Drive in Fayetteville.

“The Fire one just caught my eye,” she said. “I guess the first time was a great time.”

Spaulding scratched the ticket in her truck as she and her husband left the store.

“I didn’t believe it at first,” she recalled. “I kept saying, ‘No way, no way.’ It’s a blessing. Pretty awesome.”

Spaulding picked up her prize Monday, and after taxes were taken out, she walked away with $71,251 on her $5 investment. She’s going to pay bills and maybe take a vacation to Florida with her family.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise $2.5 million a day on average for education. For details on how $23 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Cumberland County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
