A Kansas City Chiefs Fan Allegedly Robbed Banks To Go To Their Games
The start of the NFL season is upon us, and that can drive fans to do some pretty drastic things in support of their favorite team. Such was the case of Xavier Michael Babudar, a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan who was known online by many as “Chiefsaholic.” I guess he had a bit too much Chiefsahol, because the 29 year old has just been indicted with almost 20 charges, including bank robbery and money laundering.
Now here’s the kicker…no, not that kicker. It seems that the Chiefs fan was using the money he’s charged with stealing to attend and even bet on KC games last year. This release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Missouri details his various (alleged) heists over the past year. The robberies all spanned across multiple states including Iowa, Nebraska and Tennessee. The report then states that Babudar, “…used some of the proceeds to make various casino chip purchases over the next three months at casinos in Missouri and Illinois, then cashed out his winnings and deposited them into his savings account.”
Chiefsaholic hit paydirt during this year’s SuperBowl season after betting $5,000 that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes would be named the Most Valuable Player. He made an additional $5,000 wager that the Chiefs would win the big game. When both of these things came to pass, he walked away with a payout of $100,000.
The Chiefs fan’s luck would eventually run out in July of this year when, after months of evading the law, he was arrested in July and has been detained without bond since. The Attorney’s Office makes it very clear that these are simply accusations for now, and not evidence of any guilt as of yet. Time will tell where Chiefsaholic’s fate lies. I’d also like to make it clear that I don’t condone robbery or breaking the law of any kind. But after paying full price for my ticket to the Panthers and Vikings game in October…I kinda get it.
