Stephen A Smith is one of the most recognizable Sports Media Journalists out there. He's got the number 1 sports debate show "First Take" that comes on every morning on ESPN. He's extremely successful and has been grinding for a very long time. He's also not perfect and at times people will say what they want to say about him. He had an issue with former coworker Max Kellerman that garnered some attention and after a some unsavory comments from former All Pro Wide Receiver Terrell Owens it was revisited. Another former All Pro NFL Player and sports analyst Marcellus Wiley gave his opinion about the Stephen A and Max Kellerman situation and Stephen now has the opportunity to respond. Here are the comments that were made:
Ranking The MLB Final Four Uniforms
After six and half months of baseball grind, we are down to four remaining teams fighting for the World Series Trophy. With the Texas Rangers taking on the (defending champion) Houston Astros, and the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, there's only one thing left to do. Here, we will rank the uniforms of the remaining MLB teams.
Before we analyze the threads of these ballclubs who are still out hunting in October, let's set the stage. First, three of the four teams have a shade of red in their colorways (minus the Astros). In addition, three of the four teams have a shade of blue in the bags (minus the Diamondbacks, though they occasionally have a shade of turquoise). If you are wondering about how the Phillies fit in there, they often rock the throwback "baby blues." In fact, that was the uniform of choice in the series-clinching game against the Atlanta Braves.
Tradition vs. Innovation
The 2023 MLB ALCS and NLCS features an interesting mix of baseball history. The Phillies franchise can be traced back to 1883. They have won two World Series titles, with the most recent being in 2008. Last year, the Phillies lost in the World Series to the Houston Astros. Remaining in the National League, the D-backs first started in the major leagues in 1998. Three years later, they won their only championship. Their current uniform is the most innovative and modern of the bunch, with the fluorescent highlights, and nickname across the chest.
In the American League, we have the battle of Texas. The aforementioned Astros are astonishingly in the ALCS for the seventh year in a row. They have won two World Series titles total; both have been within the past seven years. Their opponent, the Texas Rangers, is the only team of the four that have not won a championship.
Uniform Notes
Each of the four teams has an alternate uniform that they have been throwing into the mix. So, we will have home whites (one with red pinstripes), and away greys. Then, alternates of orange, sedona red, royal blue, and baby blues. So, with first pitch this weekend, let's rank the uniforms of the four remaining MLB teams of the 2023 season.
#4 Texas Rangers
Their uniform options are not bad; they are just not as good as the three others. Over the years, they often switched up, is the home hat red, or should it be blue? They will start the ALCS on the road, which mean their are more likely chances of Ranger grey and blue. Regardless of hat, it will feature the Texas "T."
#3 Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks uni options offer the most variety of the group. The home whites say D-backs, primarily in a black, turquoise, and red pattern. The away options are grey white, essentially an all Sedona red overlay. This uniform says "Arizona," with a red hat as opposed to black. Their alternates feature either a red or black jersey with the "A" chest logo. Arizona also opens on the road in Philadelphia.
#2 Houston Astros
You can't look at the Astros and not think of some of their legendary players such as Nolan Ryan. The orange, which goes nicely with "Minute Maid" park, really pushes this uniform set over the edge. The home whites display Astros across the chest. Whereas the away greys say Houston. Then, those catchy orange alternates go back to the Astros look.
#1 Philadelphia Phillies
Let's just state the obvious. Those baby blues with the maroon logo overlay, are on another level. Arguably, it should be the only uniform they ever wear. However, the home option with the red pinstripes and Phillies insignia are very clean. This NLCS series starts in Philadelphia on October 16, so we can expect a high dose of red, and hopefully baby blues.
