North Carolina Man Scores Big Lottery Win After Missing Last Drawing By One Number
You got to love when a comeback story that plays out in real life, especially when big money is involved. That’s exactly what happened to Raleigh resident Joshua Allen. After recently missing a North Carolina lottery jackpot win by just one number a few weeks ago, Allen finally hit paydirt with a winning ticket good for over $600,000.
In a recent lottery news release on the win, Allen goes into detail about his incredible turn of fortune. He felt the urge to buy a Cash 5 ticket in large part because of his grandfather. “It was always his favorite game over the years so I decided to play it because he did.”
But when he tried his hand the first time, he ended up matching four out of the five numbered balls. So close, yet so far away.
Not to be deterred, Allen decided to try his hand once more. He bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket using Online Play, and this time he hit the jackpot with all five numbers matching. The odds of this happening, according to the NC Lottery, are 1 in 962,958.
Allen noted that the experience of winning big just after falling short was “surreal”. Allen claimed his prize last Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. At the end of the day he was able to take home over $470,000 for his North Carolina lottery win.
Allen already has big plans for his winnings. “I can use this money to put a down payment on a house,” he said. Allen also plans to pay off student loans with the money.
