New ‘Tinder Matchmaker’ Feature Allows Parents To Weigh In On Matches
Lately it seems that Tinder has been throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. The popular online dating app has implemented some questionable new features this past year, including AI-assisted bio building and the exorbitantly priced “Tinder Select” subscription. And now Tinder is going for the hat trick with the introduction of the brand new “Tinder Matchmaker” function.
Ostensibly, Tinder Matchmaker is a way for users to screen potential matches with their family and friends before they decide which direction they should swipe. Tinder users will now be able to invite people from their inner circle to view other profiles and see if they think they would be a good match. Their friends and family will even be able to recommend other profiles for them to match with.
The friends and loved ones of a user do not have to have a Tinder membership themselves in order to weigh in. And while they can suggest which profiles look the most promising, they won’t be able to actually match with or message anyone on behalf of the user. Any swiping and messaging decisions still rest solely with the user themselves.
Tinder’s Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Hobley explains the motivation behind Matchmaker in this news release. “Tinder Matchmaker brings your circle of trust into your dating journey and helps you see the possibilities you might be overlooking from the perspective of those closest to you.”
The logic does make sense. I know that how my family and friends feel about someone I’m dating goes a long way with me. And sometimes they can even see potential red flags before I can. Tinder Matchmaker seems to be an innovative way to take that idea and make it more accessible in the digital age. So if you’re looking for an easier way to make grandma your cyber wingman, Matchmaker may just be the answer!
