Literally Shocking News: New Workout Leggings Can Give You a Jolt of Electricity
If you’re having trouble sticking to your New Year’s resolution of exercising more, maybe this will give you the jolt you need – literally. The biotech company WE-Stim recently unveiled their new line of gym leggings that send electric shocks through your system while you’re getting your sweat on.
@geekynews WE-STIM Electric Leggings CES 2024 Innovation Award. WE-STIM (Wearable Electric Stimulation), harvests natural electric energy generated from body movement. This harvested energy is then delivered to specific targets on the body using special conductive fibers designed inside the clothing. By simply wearing and moving, you activate a microcurrent that rejuvenates muscles without any batteries or wires. This innovative technology boosts athletic performance, aids in muscle recovery, and minimizes fatigue. Easy to understand and human-centric in its design, our leggings represent a pinnacle of technical excellence and sustainability, offering both an eco-friendly and effective approach to health and wellness. #leggings #westim #ces2024

Biotechnology has a seemingly limitless variety of uses, some of which include the implementation of sustainable bioplastic alternatives to everyday products. But these new workout pants are certainly a surprising use of modern biotechnological advancements. You could say it’s a…shocking development. (Sorry, had to)
The pants were unveiled at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In an interview with Daily Mail, We-Stim cofounder Patrick Hwang explained the reasoning behind the conductive legwear. “Whenever we move, our body can generate micro-electricity,” said Hwang, “but that energy’s dissipated and unused. Wasted.”
According to a TikTok video advertising the WE-Stim gym pants, there are “special conductive fibers” woven into the fabric that sends a tiny, unnoticeable micro-current shock to targeted muscle groups while you workout. The pants are designed to only send these shocks during continuous active movement.
On the front page of their website, WE-Stim claims that this technology can lead to increased energy, endurance, strength, recovery, and rejuvenation. The pants are also stated to reduce fatigue by 6% and improve overall workout performance by 30%.
WE-Stim is selling the pants now for $70 USD in men’s and $97 USD in women’s. You can even complete the electrifying ensemble with a pair of their energy socks.
I work out four to five times a week, and I’m all for finding new ways to optimize performance in the gym. But personally, I’ll need to wait until I hear some actual customer testimonies on these pants. It’s just something about electricity being that close to my sweat-covered body that gives me pause, especially when it’s that close to the, y’know…merchandise.
