Clear Pumpkin Pie May Just Put an End to Our Pumpkin Spice Obsessions
It’s the last few days of October, so, if you haven’t already had at least one pumpkin-spiced product, you need to purchase one ASAP.
Executive chef at Alinea, Simon Savies, may have a pumpkin product you need in your life. He has somehow invented a transparent slice of pumpkin pie.
On an Instagram post, the chef posted a picture of the see-through pie. The caption reads “Pumpkin pie for the fall menu #surrealism.” For those who are wondering how the pie would taste, Simon clarified in the Instagram comments. He states “This melts away. If it were over-gelled it would not be worth serving. The main texture that brings on nostalgia is from the pate brisee.” Yeah, we didn’t know what a pate brisee was either. According to The Splendid Table, it’s a French pastry.
The chef went on to comment, “It is a distillation of pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, and clove. Texture is very important to us.” If your mouths aren’t already watering, each piece of pumpkin pie is served with a dollop of whipped cream. No pumpkin pie is complete without the delicious topping!
Needless to say, this is a luxurious rendition of the classic and is totally different from your Mom’s pie.
We are sure this dessert will be pricey. However, it will be available during the entire fall season. You would just have to travel to Chicago to visit the Michelin-rated restaurant.
For those folks, like myself, who are a little more frugal, there are a ton of pumpkin products still on the market. Edy’s ice cream currently has a limited edition pumpkin spice latte flavor that is sure to quench your craving. Pair a scoop of the ice cream with a Trader Joe’s pumpkin roll. The easy to bake dessert includes pumpkin spiced icing to top our your fall treat.
